Guise of Transparency

A clamor for Biden’s papers at University of Delaware in the name of transparency was always the the end game.

With the Judicial Watch/Daily Caller lawsuit against the University of Delaware, we have finally reached the crux of the issue with Tara Reade’s debunked allegations against Joe Biden. The GOP wants to use Reade’s nonexistent HR report to spark an outcry over Biden’s Senate archives and personal papers, and the media is more than happy to play along.

The conversation quickly morphed from a demand to see Biden’s papers to “prove” Tara’s story into a demand to see them in the interest of “transparency.”

As I predicted, the conversation quickly morphed from a demand to see Biden’s papers to “prove” Tara’s story into a demand to see them in the interest of “transparency.”

This is like demanding to look in the medicine cabinet to find the ice cream. That’s not a logical place to keep it, and that’s not why you want to look.

Presidential candidates aren’t traditionally asked to turn over intellectual property. This is like demanding to look in the medicine cabinet to find the ice cream. That’s not a logical place to keep it, and that’s not why you want to look.

It doesn’t have to make sense for the ploy to work. It’s a fishing expedition. “Transparency” is a beast that cannot be satisfied. Once this argument enters the conversation, they’ve already won.

Transparency is a beast that cannot be satisfied.

Creating a controversy over something benign is exactly what the Bernie Left did with speeches Hillary Clinton gave when she was in the private sector. Bernie’s Rose Twitter minions have mounted a petition drive and harassment campaign aimed University of Delaware employees demanding they “Release Tara’s Files.”

Let’s clarify a few things. When Biden left office, he gifted the records from his Senate PERSONAL office to the University. The papers will be curated for publication after he retires from public life. When Biden decided to run for President, naturally the original publication date was adjusted. That’s not a “cover up.”

This is completely different from PERSONNEL records for Biden’s office, which were never in his possession. Congressional staff are employed by the House or the Senate, not the offices where they work. Here’s a great thread from former Congressman David Jolly with more detail about how Congressional HR/Personnel works.

The files at the University of Delaware contain every letter Biden’s Senate office ever received or answered. Details about every social security or disability case he ever helped with. Notes on conversations with other Members, staff, constituents, and later, the President of the United States. Think of what the media would do with that.

Biden can’t release records that would expose people’s personal information. He can’t “run a search” — files from 1993 would be boxes of actual paper. Hundreds of boxes, maybe thousands. The media knows this. But they know not everyone will think it through. And you can’t find a file that does not exist.

Here’s another thread on what it would take to cover up Tara Reade’s nonexistent complaint.

You can only combat propaganda by countering it with the truth, consistently and emphatically. You can’t ignore it or it will entrench itself into our collective consciousness and permeate the national debate.

We didn’t understand the damage Bernie’s reconstituted Rovian smears were doing to Hillary’s 2016 campaign until it was too late. This time, we have to fight back.
