A few more things while we wait:
- You can’t just screech “voter fraud” to override the will of the voters. You have to identify which specific votes are fraudulent and why, and you have to prove it. As Claire McCaskill wisely said, “If Democrats were going to ‘steal’ this election, we would have stolen a few Senate seats too.”
- In Iowa last year, Mayor Pete claimed victory before all the results were released to the public because they were confident they had the votes. The Bernie Bros lost their damn minds, and insist to this very day that Pete “cheated,” but that’s not how it works. We did this when I was with Bobby Bright’s campaign in 2008 too. It’s about posturing and PR. Claiming victory means the burden is on your opponent has to take it away from you, and looking like a sore loser doesn’t inspire confidence with the public when the results of election are in dispute.
This is what Thom Tillis did in NC on Tuesday. But it’s not like calling “Shotgun” — The data has to back you up. People on the campaign told me to ignore the call, that NC was very much still in play. And Thursday morning they were proven right. We will know about NC on the 12th.
In a vacuum, Cal Cunningham doesn’t deserve to win. I mean, fuck that guy. I don’t care about the adultery, but I very much care about reckless stupidity. But he’s our guy and he’s far and away better than the guy who has taken a lifelong stand against requiring restaurant workers to wash their hands.
